Long-form is the latest buzzword in news and more outlets are beginning to discover a devoted readership that craves a better understanding of weighty issues. Among the payoffs so far for journalism stalwarts and startups alike has been more time spent on site and richer discussion around the reporting.
On Feb. 29, join Hacks/Hackers NYC at the offices of The Huffington Post when Blake Eskin of The New Yorker, and Jefferson Rabb of The Atavist, share what they've learned about editing, designing and delivering deep reporting for the Web and the iPad that flies in the face of tl;dr.
Blake Eskin is the web editor of The New Yorker and the host of The New Yorker Out Loud podcast. His book, A Life in Pieces: The Making and Unmaking of Binjamin Wilkomirski, was a 2002 New York Times Notable Book. He has written for many newspapers and magazines and for public radio.
Jefferson Rabb is co-founder and creative director of The Atavist. He has been creating innovative Web sites for the publishing world for over a decade. He has created a unique digital presence for best-selling authors Haruki Murakami, Jhumpa Lahiri, Laura Hillenbrand, Joshua Ferris, Gary Shteyngart, and many others. He previously worked on staff at MTV.com, Sephora.com, The Shooting Gallery, and Mutation Labs.
